In case you were wondering... Yes! You can 3D Print a house!

In a remarkable leap towards sustainable and accessible housing, the partnership between the non-profit organization New Story and the construction technology company ICON is paving the way for a future where everyone has a home.

This dynamic collaboration has birthed the world’s first communities of 3D-printed homes in Mexico, Haiti and El Salvador, specifically designed for low-income families.

New Story, celebrated as one of the “world’s most innovative companies” by Fast Company, is not just building houses; they are reimagining the entire housing ecosystem. Their approach includes investing in smart capital to support the research and development of new technologies, enhancing the housing finance market, and selecting sustainable materials that significantly reduce carbon emissions.

The Vulcan printer, developed by ICON, has been at the forefront of this revolution. Stretching 46.5 feet wide and 15.5 feet high, this printer is crafting homes up to 3,000 square feet on the spot.

Paired with the “Magma system”, it prepares the ultra-strong Lavacrete for printing. All orchestrated by ICON’s BuildOS software, turning blueprints into real homes with precision, faster, affordably in an eco-friendly manner.

These homes, designed with input from the future residents, are not just functional with two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and bath, but also embody safety, durability, and sustainability. The technology currently focuses on building the outer structure of homes, but there’s potential for future advancements, such as printing interior furnishings and integrating utility infrastructure.

“Since girls spend more than 200 million hours everyday doing household chores many of them sacrifice an education.  Homes with access to basic services mean children can spend more time in the classroom."

But our journey towards making a difference continues...

We’re now focusing our energies on a new challenge: funding a second home. Keep up with our endeavors by following our Instagram page.
